Aslando: Turkish Martial Art and Defense

About Us

ASLANDO

Mikail Ali Çetiner

Mikail Ali Çetiner was born in 1979 in Austria. He is the third child of an expatriate family, originally of Turkmen origin, whose grandfather settled in Tepe village (formerly Turkmen village) in the Kaman district of Kırşehir about 180 years ago. He completed his primary and secondary education in Baden, Austria, and then completed his engineering education.

In 1983, with the encouragement of his family, he took his first step into the world of sports with training in Korean martial arts Taekwondo/Hapkido. Because even at the age of 4, his being very active, dynamic, fast and determined seemed to herald that he could be a successful athlete in the future. In order to further develop and strengthen the talents of their children, his parents enrolled him in parallel with the Japanese martial arts Karate/Aikido school in the same region in 1985.

During the course training, he received a very good sportive training. He has achieved numerous successes in the children’s division. Noticing the numerous degrees he has received, his family has provided him with professional Thai-Boxing/Kick-Boxing training. As a matter of fact, he studied far eastern sports every day of the week without any free time.

At the age of 16, he deserved to receive his first black belt and has participated in numerous competitions and achieved superior degrees. Among these degrees, the highest degrees were the world free fight championships. He has risen to the level of mastery in various Far Eastern sports and has repeatedly been awarded the title of the world’s most technical athlete.

He has been involved in sports research in various countries of the world. Among the martial arts he studied before developing his own system; There are Taekwondo, Hapkido, Karate, Aikido, Boxing, Thai-Boxing, Kick-Boxing, Kung Fu, Wing Chun, Jujutsu, Judo, Fencing, Wrestling and Jiujitsu. In 2000, he gathered all his sporting achievements, experiences and knowledge, breaking new ground with the characteristics of 5000 years of Turkish history full of wars, rolling up his sleeves and establishing his own system to introduce an ancestor’s art of war and defense to the world, such as wrestling, our valuable ancestral sport. . The name of the war and defense system established by Mikail Ali Çetiner is Aslando (Aslan’s Way). He adopted the principle of benefiting from the strength of his opponent without resisting his strong opponents, and developed a new art of war and defense, which is defined as the chance of the weak against the strong.

The aim of Aslando, which he developed, is to introduce the culture, morals, customs and traditions of our nation to the whole world, to support the unity and solidarity of our nation, to contribute to all historical and cultural elements, activities and activities, to world peace without any sect or race discrimination, to help people gain their self-confidence. To fight against its spread all over the world, by encouraging people to do sports, which is one of the sine qua non of life, to rid them of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or, in general, all their bad habits.

Aslando started in Turkey in 2000 and has started to spread in Europe since 2001. Aslando is a Turkish War and Defense system currently distributed in 16 countries.

The biggest hobby of Mikail Ali Çetiner, who is married and has 5 children, is doing sports, reading books, doing various researches and feeding parrots. Currently, he continues his life in Germany as the General President and trainer of the World Aslando Federation, of which he is the founder.

What is Aslando?

Aslando literally means “lion’s path” (Do = path), the strongest animal in the land. Technically speaking, it is a Turkish martial art and defense art, not only for feet or hands, but also for learning all the necessary techniques, including various techniques from other martial arts. Aslando is also taught specifically to security forces and special operations units.

50% kicking is used and 50% striking. Aslando has naturally become a realistic, fast, practical, effective martial and defensive art by using logic based on intelligent thinking and removing everything unnecessary from the mind. As a system, Aslando consists of principles, not monotonous movements. The student of Aslando learns not to use unnecessary force, not to stand in the way of his opponent’s power, to use the power exerted on him to his own advantage, to fight not only against one person but also against many people at the same time, to be fluid and comfortable. It ensures harmony of body and soul. Techniques that are repeated many times become reflexive. At Aslando, the concepts of truth, kindness, patience, love, and respect are taught during the educational process. It develops the athlete’s intelligence and gives them the ability to act independently. It gives the human body vitality and agility. This develops feelings of self-confidence, self-control, and concentration. People learn to behave correctly and wisely when fighting an opponent. Aslando training is a training method that leads to success with practical intelligence, gives spirit and normal strength, and also improves concentration. Character development, strengthening of willpower and learning ability, and tolerant behavior are taught. The most important factor that distinguishes Aslando from others is that it works with sensitive points in the human body. Aslando is generally performed without the use of weapons. However, Aslando also offers training in the use of any object that you can see and hold as a weapon. A special self-defense system has been developed against all types of armed and unarmed attacks. Regardless of body anatomy, anyone who wants to study Aslando can find a place for themselves in this system.

Aslando is not a force-based martial art. Its essence arose from the desire to defend oneself against much stronger opponents. You can rent your opponent’s attack and add your own force to it and reflect it back at the opponent. It is clearly about neutralizing the opponent with their own energy. It means neutralizing the opponent by taking advantage of their momentary surprise, by nullifying the opponent’s movements and predictions. Of course, it uses scientific logic based on intelligent thinking, discarding everything unnecessary while trying to provide its students with a safe environment in which to develop. Aslando, which is the way of protection and defense, is a mental and physical training exercise that aims to maximize technical, tactical, mental, psychological, speed, endurance, strength/power, flexibility, and agility development while minimizing injuries.

When we look at violent events, from beatings to the most horrific murders, it has the content to prove itself without reason. However, Aslandocu only defends himself and does not try to prove himself, as he is trained to neutralize the opponent. The proof is the sports degree he has for him. He never uses the decisive blows that an Aslando player knows in a street fight. It even takes a few light blows if necessary.

Practice movements and discipline, which we call cultural physics, can be difficult for beginners. If there were no “Do” philosophy, people with aggressive feelings and thoughts would use the techniques they have learned on others when they encounter something they don’t want in their daily lives, and they would make irreversible and even irreparable mistakes and become a bomb that would explode. Sometimes the meaningless “Do” is really important. Aslando is a martial art with hands and feet, but it is also a physical and mental motivation. Aslando is an art, and its ultimate goal is not to win; it aims to mature people’s morals and character.

Aslando is practiced barefoot and in a special uniform. In Aslando, as in many other martial and combat arts originating in the Far East, belts tied to the clothing are used to indicate experience and mastery.

Belts: At the beginning, every Liondoctor receives a white belt. Aslando players who have gained experience in training and competitions over time are subjected to certain tests and skip generations. This changes the color of the generations. These generations are, in order: ………………… in colors. To make sorting easier, there is an intermediate band between the two bands.

The black belt is the highest belt. But there are also grades of black belt. These are 1st Dan (San), 2nd Dan (San), 3rd Dan (San), 4th Dan (San), 5th Dan (San), 6th Dan (San), 7th Dan (San), 8th Dan (San), 9th Dan (San), and 10th Dan (San). There is a certain waiting period between each Dan (San) grade. This period is as long as the Dan (San) grade. For example: Someone with 4th Dan (San) must wait 4 years to pass 5th Dan (San) and then take an exam.

An athlete must reach the age of 16 to become a black belt. If they are not yet old enough, they can receive a toy belt instead of a black belt. The grades of the toy generation are 1st toy, 2nd toy, and 3rd toy.

One generation exam takes place every 4 months, and those who pass move on to the next generation. It is also possible to advance by skipping intermediate generations after success.

The highest level in Aslando is the black belt, a teaching qualification. After that, the promotions called “Dan (San)” are passed.

The work of ASLANDO consists of several parts.

1. Training (basic technical rules, cultural physics, basic technical work, manual work, partner work)

2. Competition

3. It is folding.

Technical terms and titles are in Turkish. It is an excellent and logical system for defending and protecting oneself on the street against the increasing number of muggings. It is a system that anyone between the ages of 7 and 70 can easily apply and use against the events they encounter inside and outside the hall. Exercises and discipline can of course be difficult for a beginner. However, with hard work and discipline, the result can be achieved. To be successful, the student must be patient and resilient. It contributes significantly to the self-confidence of children who start early and to the development of a culture of respect in society within the framework of the hall rules. Respect and discipline are the most important qualities an athlete must have.

Aslando begins with kindness and tolerance and ends with kindness and tolerance.

Aslandocu always grows up to be fair, impartial, tolerant, just, and useful to society.

Philosophy

It has proven itself in other martial and defense arts and seeks to introduce it to the world as an ancient martial art developed by Mikail Ali Çetiner. In the Aslando system, not only the technique but also the way the technique is used is very important. It is an important factor that the technique is applicable in real life, not fancy and flashy. In technical logical understanding, there is a principle that it should be easy to have a fixed reaction, and it should not have very complex and overwhelming characteristics.

Aslando has various training programs. At Aslando, students are taught the concepts of accuracy, politeness, patience, tolerance, love, and respect throughout the educational process. Aslando trains to develop intelligence and examines moral feelings. In this way, it develops feelings of self-confidence, self-control, and concentration (collecting thoughts at one point). When Aslando techniques are applied correctly, they can block any type and form of attack. In addition, Aslando techniques can be used effectively against both one and multiple attackers. Aslando is taught in a special way. Through repeated practice, all the important points of the movement become reflexes. This reflex is more than sufficient to protect oneself in a critical situation without using brute force.

Aslando is technical training to protect yourself as quickly as possible. It offers success in the physical and spiritual realm by confronting real face-to-face combat. It is a real protection system outside (on the street) where other security methods are not sufficient. There are systems that can be easily applied to defend oneself against a group of men and women, children, young and old people who need to protect themselves with or without aids.

Its philosophy actually lies in the meaning of the word. As long as you have to, you should fight and fight like a lion, otherwise you should not get into a fight and get lost. Aslando literally consists of two words, “Aslan” (defined as the strongest animal in the land) and “Do” meaning the road, i.e., the path of the lion. It should be known that in the animal kingdom, no animal attacks another animal arbitrarily. By provoking the animals to attack, they must either feel threatened or want to hunt. Aslandians, on the other hand, do not use Aslando for hunting, but only to protect themselves.

Since it comes from its nobility, nothing can resist it when the lion animal roars, and it prefers not to meet it. In the current environment in which we live, it has become inevitable for every soldier to be able to defend themselves.

History and Origin

It has proven itself in other war and self-defense arts, and we aim to present it to the world as an ancient martial art, developing it ourselves. In our system, not only the technique but also the way it is applied is very important. A key factor is that the technique should be practical in real life, not flashy or showy. It should be simple enough to produce consistent reactions through logical understanding of the technique, without overly complex or overwhelming characteristics.

Aslando is a Turkish war and self-defense art, the path of protection and preservation, based on Central Asia, Turkish culture, historical motifs, social and economic structures, and aesthetic dimensions. Information was collected and methods were combined. It carries many features of 5,000 years of Turkish culture—both the outstanding achievements of our ancestors on the battlefield and their warrior posture, bravery, and courage. Although Aslando’s roots stretch back thousands of years, the fact that it is a constantly evolving and changing Turkish war and self-defense art is its main feature that distinguishes it from others.

Mikail Ali ÇETİNER, the founder of Aslando, rolled up his sleeves with the energy and experience of beginning sports activities at the age of 4, aiming to introduce an ancient martial art like wrestling, our valuable ancestral sport, to the world, marking a new premiere in Turkish history full of wars (Aslando). He adopted the principle of benefiting from the strength of his opponent without resisting a stronger adversary and laid the foundation for a new defense art defined as the weak taking advantage of the strong.

Mikail Ali ÇETİNER, born in 1979, took his first step into the sports world in 1983 with training in Taekwondo and Hapkido, two Korean martial arts. Later, in 1985, he continued Karate and Aikido, Japanese martial arts, under the same roof. He received intensive training and participated in as many educational activities as possible.

After achieving remarkable success in children’s competitions, he continued with Thai boxing/kickboxing with his family’s approval, studying Far Eastern sports every day without leisure time. Many of his students participated in competitions and earned certifications, including the highest, world championships in freestyle fighting. He was involved in sports research in various countries and is recognized as an expert in martial arts both in Turkey and internationally.

This movement began in Turkey in 2000 and continued in Austria in 2001. Aslando is currently studied in a total of 16 countries.

If we describe Aslando with its main qualities, these qualities are technical as well as considering historical, cultural, and traditional factors.

In prehistoric times, we see the existence of hand and foot strike sports depicted in Sumerian, Hittite, and Egyptian wall decorations and documents. From more recent history, we know that Central Asian Turks, Seljuks, and Ottomans practiced kicking arts under the name of “Kicking” and used them in military training.

Turkish tribes, who brought the Chinese to their knees in the west and the Romans in the east, had a great martial art for their time, at least as advanced as contemporary martial arts today. Evaluating this, we see interesting results. Warriors raised by Turkish tribes mastered all kinds of war weapons, successfully applied hand-to-hand and unarmed combat techniques. Wars of that era relied on manpower. Swords, daggers, spears, shields, clubs, maces, chains, etc. While warriors needed to master weapons, they also had to excel in unarmed combat since they often fought without arms.

Aslando aims to contribute to the unity and solidarity of the Turkish nation, encompassing all historical and cultural elements, activities, and events. Our main goal is to support the unity and solidarity with the Turkish republics, promote the Turkish war and self-defense art abroad, and raise awareness of Turkey and Turks.

For example, our oil wrestling began after the Turks arrived in Anatolia. However, our wrestling in Central Asia includes Aba, belt, and Kurash wrestling. Our oil wrestling began 643 years ago and has become a part of our culture today. The Turkish war and self-defense art “ASLANDO” is the path, method, and practice to achieve physical, mental, moral, and spiritual discipline. Aslando is an art of strategy. It unites rhythm, softness, speed, agility, reflexes, and concentration.

Looking at our history, it has produced hundreds of thinkers, philosophers, commanders, and heroes—from Mete Han to the present day…

What Distinguishes Aslando from Other Martial Arts

The most important point that distinguishes Aslando from other war and self-defense sports is the tactic of “disabling people using nerve points in the human body,” which exists in no other sport. It is the result of intensive scientific research with experts.

Additionally, our sport focuses on neutralizing the opponent not with one’s own energy but with the opponent’s energy. Furthermore, an important aspect we teach our students is converting behavior in dangerous situations into reflexes.

Aslando is a modern martial art based less on physical strength and more on the principles of balance, control, and conscious movement. Our goal is not only to teach techniques, but also to create a safe training environment that promotes respect, self-control, and self-confidence. With our programs, which are suitable for all age groups, our students not only strengthen their bodies, but also learn to make the right decisions. The goal of Aslando is not to fight, but to train conscious people who can protect themselves and their surroundings in the right way when necessary.
